a size change - 8.5 x 11

I made these projects for Paws on Scrapbooking. It was fun and refreshing to do some 8.5x11 for a change. When I first started out scrapbooking about 10 years ago this was the only size available.

A Good Read: It is so cute watching you spend so much time reading...or at least pretending to read since you haven't quite learned how to at age 3. Soon though! Dec '08

There is quite a mix of supplies here...Pink Paislee, Sassafras Lass, Making Memories, Bo Bunny, Fancy Pants, American Crafts, Prima...and of course, I dipped into my enormous buttons collection!

Hard at Play: Well, I rarely do double layouts these days but here is an exception to the rule. I decided to do something a little different and put my title on the second page and the journaling on the first ( I would normally do it the other way around). All of the papers here are Sassafras Lass from a 6x6 paper pad (that actually belongs to my 3 year old but I *borrowed* it LOL) . Journaling reads: We spent a lot of time at the park in Borden this past summer. Even though they had a really cool playground, you still preferred to play on the ground with the rocks. Summer '08

When I made this layout at first, it had a white background. I doodled on the white background and hated it!! So, I trimmed all around it and mounted it on a kraft background instead. I like it much better this way.

These Pink Paislee Holly Doodle letters are my new favourite letter stickers (hard & play).

This is a Making Memories album with a zig zag edge. I don't often alter albums but this one was just begging for it with the pretty kraft cover. I bought a package of chipboard woodland creatures etc. and when I opened them up they were a lot larger than I had expected. I figured I wouldn't use them normally but on a album cover they are a perfect size...and so whimsical and fun. I thought they also went well with the Sassafras papers in the layout above.

Have you ever SCRAPJACKED?

Just Like Daddy - featuring Basic Grey's Urban Prairie line (which is my favourite BG line!)

Hosted by super-scraper CindyS , the gals at Paws on Scrapbooking recently scrapjacked a layout by Christine Middlecamp. A scrapjack is when a layout by someone else is posted and we scraplift it with a big reveal at the end. There were over 25 participants. It was a really fun event and girls at Paws plan on doing more of these in the future. Check out the reveal here.

I did my layout about Larissa taking after her Daddy when it comes to mis-matched socks. When I put the laundry away, I put all the socks into pairs (I swear!!). Well, Daddy thinks it's funny to pull the pairs apart and wear two different socks. ARGH! LOL It seems that Larissa has inherited his mis-matched sock gene. FYI: I bought Jason all new socks last fall...about 40 pairs and guess what??? They are all the same....he says I killed the fun. No worries, he still finds ways to mis-match them...like wearing one of mine! LOL

Buttons * Buttons * Buttons!!

I am pleased to announce that I will be doing some work for My Little Bit of Whimsy as a designer. These gorgeous and unique buttons are all individually handmade by the talented Stephanie Hart. Did I mention that she is a Maritime girl!?! I love to support Canadian companies. So hop on over and check out the goods at her store and keep your eyes peeled for a gallery reveal around February 1.

Top 8 of '08

I have thoroughly enjoyed cruising around blogs to have a look at everyone's favourite layouts of '08. Here are some of my favs from last year for different reasons.

This is a layout that I did while on bedrest after having my tonsils out last spring. All the calla lilies are stamped, hand cut, painted with watercolours, layered with hot glue and embossed with radiant pearls. The chipboard circle has sheer ribbon wrapped around it. A close up of the lilies is actually my blog header. I was just grateful to be playing with some crafts while laying on the couch for what seemed like forever when in all reality it was only a few weeks (a little longer than expected due to some complications). Although there is no journaling and nothing overly noteable about the photo (except that it is my beautiful girl) I enjoyed the creative process throughly.

I'm not quite sure what it is about this layout that I love so much...I do know that it sparked a love affair with my circle punches like none other. Now, almost every layout that I make has a punched circle on it somewhere.

Ah, and the superhero layout. Something about the graphic/comic book style has me lovin this. Of course, the amusing story behind the title also earns it bonus points.

There is just something about a sleeping child that makes us feel peaceful, content and probably a little relief! LOL To me this is one of those photos that is the embodiment of childhood....falling asleep on top of the covers for an afternoon nap while still wearing your flying fairy princess costume. *sigh* Stop growing up so fast wee one.

This is another that tugs at my heart strings. I snapped this photo of her while she was inspecting a flower. She just looked so tall and old for her ripe ole age of 3.25. Of course, that was last spring and now when I look at the photo I think, I thought she looked so grown up in this photo but she has changed so much since then. Why does childhood seem to fly by at warp speed?

Totally princes.... this past year came with an enormous increase in costume wear. I rarely made a trip to the grocery store or post office without being accompanied by Tinkerbell, a flying fairy princess, a unicorn, a skunk, Cinderalla, Snow White or an Eeyore (that was 2 sizes too small). I just love the progression of photos in this layout...from outside playing, to heading in the house and finally, passing out in total exhaustion and having a great afternoon nap. Of course, these photos made me step out of my comfort zone. I have a strong distaste for purple but I just couldn't get around it with the purple costume and all. Note to self: no more purple costumes!!! (I already avoid purple clothing whenever possible!)

This layout doesn't have any journaling at all but with a photo like this, who needs journaling !?! You know the saying...a photo of a father and daughter sleeping is worth a thousand words. This was one of my first layouts with a Hambly Screen Print and I totally fell in love with transparencies all over again. The Shakespeare quote on this layout is also on Larissa's bedroom wall above her crib (Wall Talk).

Our Kitty...Little Larissa is obsessed with kitty cats and when I saw this mask at the Dollar store...well, let's just say she ripped it from my hands and stuck it on her head immediately. I love the b&w/colour mix in the photos as well as the tearing. Something that I hadn't done in years but recently started all over again. You know, what they say 'what's old is new again'.

Here's to a scrappy 2009! I hope to accomplish at least as many projects as I did in 2008 which was approximately 250 layouts. Perhaps '09 will have me get my 250 layouts into albums....yes, they are all stacked up in my scrap room waiting to given their proper home. I suppose it would be a good thing to get that taken care before I embark on a journey of another 250!

I will miss you - The Paper Attic

There is only one local scrapbook store in Prince Edward Island. A store I have loved dearly with wonderful staff and always the best up to date products. Sadly, the store will be closing this week. I will miss their crops and my many visits to their store to get my fix. Here are a few goodies that I picked up today on my last visit for shopping purposes.

My Creative Scrapbook

The January kit has been revealed at My Creative Scrapbook. I am happy to announce that have joined their Design Team and I will be designing with them every month. I am very excited..their kits are gorgeous and jam packed!!! Check out all the spectacular work in this months DT Gallery. The main kit this month features My Minds Eye - Laundry Line.

This is my brother Richard and his girlfriend Kristin. I got to meet Kristin for the first time this past summer. She is the first girl my brother has ever brought home to meet the family. She is a wonderful spunky and crazy girl...full of life and fits in perfect with the Devoe's. I don't get to see them much since they live on the other side of the country but hopefully they will make trips home an annual summer event :)

My sweet niece Jaedyn and the wee age of 2. What sweetie-pie :)

And this is Missy Larissy this past summer... I was trying to get her photo in front of a sunflower patch but it was chilly and she was hungry... but I do like how the photos turned out!! I plan on adding some hidden journaling on a tag tucked into the side of the scallopped pattern paper. :)

This is another box I made for homemade cards. This one went to my SIL Tanya for Christmas :)

Oh Baby III

Bundle of Pink: And here is my third layout using the same package of American Craft blush lullaby thickers :) The pattern paper used here is a Making Memories die cut sheet with a little bit of Basic Grey Porcelain. The big brown sticker behind the photo is an American Crafts sticker..not the easiest thing to use because of the sheer size and strong stick-a-bility of it! This is my wee Larissa in the hospital just after she was born...look at that head of hair on her! There is another JJ Sobey Threading Lightly flower on here ...that beautiful beige bloom. I am a huge fan of these flowers and texture they bring to a page as well as the facts that they are handmade and local.

I'm seeing PINK!

Pink Paislee that is! Imagine my surprise to wake up and find out that I was chosen to be on their Guest Design Team for '09!! I let out quite a squeal indeed...raced off to grab the phone and call my sister. I didn't even realize that the announcement was being made yesterday... thankfully I have some wonderful scrappy friends who alerted me asap. Mr. Jason wasn't very excited for me...he just didn't get it but I described it in terms of a Ninendo sending him a game to test out and review etc blah blah blah and he got it after that LOL.

I am honoured to be included by Pink Paislee and can't wait to get my guest spot!!! :D

My new baby

Merry Christmas everyone!! DH shocked my pants off with this little treat. He's not much of a shopper at all but we had to do a few last minute things on the 24th and while we were in town he took me into the Future Shop to buy me a Canon Rebel. I was pretty surprised. Of course, they were sold out...there and everywhere else in town. So he hit the boxing day sale and picked one up with an extra grip, battery, case & 16GB SD card. Now I need to learn how to use it and start saving my pennies for more lenses and a good flash :)

Scrapbook Trends!!

I am so excited to announce that I have my first publication with Scrapbook Trends. They picked up a layout called "Thankful for" featuring Upsy Daisy pattern papers. I'm not exactly sure when the it's due out but it's in a Stamping Idea Book! I've already packed the layout carefully, filled out the paperwork and popped it in the mail. It's all up to them now :)

Canadian Scrapbooker, Winter '08

If you haven't picked up the winter edition of Canadian Scrapbooker yet, you need to go get it! This issue is jam-packed with great layouts. I have a few layouts in this issue as does my sister Jocelyne.

Merry Christmas Grumpy Girl. We were trying to get a cute photo of Larissa in her little Santa hat but she was not very happy about it! She had just unwrapped her Christmas Eve present which was a bag full of Diego toys and she was anxious to get out to visit her cousins and show off her new toys. This was about the best we could get. I decided to scrap it anyways. The large red die cut was cut on the Cricut Expression and then I used a Signo White Uniball pen to add a little something to it.

I made Christmas chaos to show off our not-so-great-dark-cluttered Christmas photos. Our family is HUGE and our Christmas mornings have always been nothing short of chaotic. I wanted a nice clean design that would work with these busy photos.

KISS KISS. I made this layout for the Hambly DT call...well I didn't make the DT but the layout did get published so that made me quite happy. This is a photo of Larissa giving her cousin Keaton a quick little kiss....yes, kissing cousins. No worries though...it looks a lot more passionate in the photo than it really was. Plus Keaton took his arm and wiped his mouth right afterwards LOL. This layout was done with the very first Hambly screen print that I ever purchased... I loved it so much that I didn't want to glue it down so I just let it sit there for a long time (actually until the publishing request). I did have to glue it together before I popped it in the mail to Canadian Scrapbooker.

The sprit of the season....

Well Christmas is almost upon us and the crafting is slowing down a little. We are doing all kinds of things that keep me out of the scrap room....things like gingerbread houses, sight seeing for Christmas lights, visiting Santa at his 'house' in the mall and spending time with family (eating meat pies LOL) Here's a little recipe book that I started so I can keep our favourite holiday recipes inside...some of which include my super famous toasted coconut cream pie, peanut butter balls, reese peanut butter cup cookies, spider cookies and pudding cookies. The album is a little Basic Grey Chocolate Chip chipboard album.

Here's a little something that I have been making a lot of lately for gifts. It's a wooden box from the dollar store, painted and decorated and filled with homemade cards for all occassions.

And we musn't forget some actual scrapbooking... this layout features the Pink Paislee Tinsel Town collection. I just love this photo of little miss Jaedyn (my niece) and Larissa. For the title, I used Bazzill stitching templates and then used Stickles over my stitching (just like I did in the card in the last post). I glittered up the Fashion Script alphas as well....nothing is safe from my glitter obession these days. I just received a big box of Pink Paislee goodies from Paws on Scrapbooking so there will be more of this to come :)

51 cards in a day

I received a call last Sunday from a lady at our Church requesting that I make 50 plus 1 cards asap.... 50 nice cards and 1 super nice card...LOL. I made these Sunday and finished them up Monday evening. About half of them have the pattern paper backgrounds (using up scraps) and the blue ones are embossed with a Stampin' Up! stamp and white glitter embossing powder. The nativity images are stamped, coloured and then cut out...that's a lot of cutting in a short amount of time! The super-nice card (heehee) has some stitching on it using the Bazzill templates (Christmas) and then I added some Stickles over the top...what can I say...I'm on a glitter kit. I put some Glossy Accents on the snowman just to give him a little dimension. The snowman & heaven and nature sing stamps are by PSX Design and are OLD. I have them for years and years. It feels good to dig through my old stamps and use them.

Upsy Daisy Designs - the details

I am really excited to be the Guest Designer for Upsy Daisy Designs this month. I had the pleasure of working with their Spirit and Hot Chocolate lines. Here are a few close ups of the work and if you want to see the real deal you can check it out here.
